Officer’s Hand Broken - A POLICE officer suffered a broken hand while making an arrest as he responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in Rochford.

A POLICE officer suffered a broken hand while making an arrest as he responded to reports of a domestic disturbance in Rochford.

 Police were called out to a property in Canewdon shortly before 4.10pm on Friday 23 August, responding to reports of an assault.

 A spokesperson said: “Upon police arrival we found a man attempting to leave the scene in a van.

 “While making an arrest, an officer suffered a broken hand. He was taken on to hospital where he received treatment.

 “A 34-year-old man, from Rochford, was arrested on suspicion of common assault and assaulting an emergency worker.”

 Chief Inspector Paul Hogben, Rochford district commander, said: “My officers frequently place themselves in harm’s way as they go about their duties protecting the public and arresting suspects.

 “They do not deserve to face injury while undertaking this important work.

 “Any such incidents will be investigated to the fullest extent.”
