On The Beat – MP, David Burton-Sampson has announced that there are more police back on the beat, saying neighbourhood policing targets have been met earlier than planned.
MP, David Burton-Sampson has announced that there are more police back on the beat, saying neighbourhood policing targets have been met earlier than planned.
A statement issued by the MP for Southend West and Leigh, said: “The recruitment of 80 new police officers in Essex in the past year means the target has been achieved two months early.
“It’s really great news for the people of Southend West and Leigh”, said the MP. “I am delighted to see that Incidences of burglary and some violent crimes in the city have been reduced, with figures moving in the right direction.”
“Southend’s policing team was boosted by 11 new neighbourhood officers last year, to strengthen visible neighbourhood policing.
“As part of the Neighbourhood Policing Guarantee, all police forces are to have a designated anti-social behaviour leader and must also publish a bespoke Anti-Social Behaviour Action Plan.”
The MP said: “Everyone deserves to feel safe. To have a police officer they know and trust is paramount. This government had a plan to put neighbourhood police back on the beat, to tackle violent crime and anti-social behaviour – and we’re delivering.
“We’re bringing visible policing back to our high streets and the target being attained early shows the government is delivering on our pledges to the British people,” he added.
An additional 13,000 neighbourhood officers will be rolled out nationwide by the end of this parliament and Essex will see 74 new officers, thanks to government funding.
