The windmill, in Bellingham Lane, provides a host of activities for the whole family to enjoy, providing an opportunity to learn about local history and take in breath-taking views from the top of the building, as well as a regular exception calendar for local artists to showcase their work.

Activities for children include the chance to try their hand at milling flour.

A hard-working team of enthusiastic volunteers make the Grade II listed building an exciting place to visit, and now the site is open to visitors each Wednesday 10am – 1pm; Saturday 1pm – 4pm and Sunday 1pm – 4pm.

Rayleigh Windmill’s Volunteer Co-ordinator, Trevor Rand, said: “We’re excited to offer a new presentation for visitors who are interested in a more detailed history of the Windmill.

“We are also delighted to have talented local artists present throughout the season to showcase their work to visitors. We look forward to seeing you there!”

Entry is free of charge, a minimum £1 donation per person is encouraged.

Parking in the Mill Hall Car Park is free on Saturdays from 1pm and on Sundays all day.

If you are unable to visit the windmill in person, you can explore the Windmill and its history by enjoying the Rayleigh Windmill’s virtual tour.

The virtual tour uses a combination of footage from inside the Windmill, drone footage and historical photographs to highlight what makes the Windmill such a special and well-loved landmark.
