Operation Limit

DRIVERS were arrested and vehicles were seized during a recent Road Safety Team operation in Southend and Rochford.
Drivers speeding, drink and drug‑driving, and using vehicles illegally were targeted during a Road Safety Team operation called Operation Limit.
Officers carried out the dedicated day of action during April, focusing on the Southend and Rochford districts, where the team used both stop checks and camera technology to identify offenders putting others at risk on Essex’s roads.
The operation resulted in significant enforcement action, including: 100 Traffic Offence Reports (TORs) issued – 150 speeding drivers detected by speed enforcement cameras – 13 vehicles seized from the road – 20 arrests, including 15 for drink or drug driving offences – One unroadworthy vehicle stopped under a PG9 prohibition – One Section 59 warning issued for antisocial driving.
A police statement said: “Operation Limit is Essex Police’s ongoing commitment to tackling the drivers who cause the greatest harm on our roads, particularly those involved in dangerous behaviour concerning drink and drug driving.
“The day’s results show that poor driving decisions continue to place road users, pedestrians and families at serious risk.
“The policing activities are designed not only to catch offenders, but to prevent serious collisions before they happen.
“Police are reminding drivers that speeding and driving under the influence are among the leading causes of people being killed or seriously injured on roads. The message is clear – those who choose to ignore the law and put lives at risk should expect to be stopped and dealt with.
“Anyone with concerns about dangerous driving, drink or drug driving is urged to report it.
“In an emergency, always call 999.”
