Parking Situation “Untenable” - A BURGEONING political party in Southend has issued a rallying cry to enhance parking conditions and alleviate congestion in Leigh.

A BURGEONING political party in Southend has issued a rallying cry to enhance parking conditions and alleviate congestion in Leigh.

The leader of the newly-formed Confelicity Party in Southend, James Miller, asserts that a substantial overhaul is necessary to address these challenges and the persistent traffic issues faced by residents in a town that has recently earned the title of “one of the best places to live in the UK.”

During a recent Southend full council meeting, Mr. Miller raised concerns regarding how new developments have exacerbated parking dilemmas.

He said: “While it might be impractical to demand that developers allocate two or even three parking spaces per property, the situation has deteriorated to such an extent for residents that it may be time to engage in these discussions.”

In his call for significant investment in the public transportation network he also raised the feasibility of a new car park in Leigh.

He continued: “I’m not necessarily endorsing the construction of a multi-story or underground car park; rather, I believe that a radical solution is necessary to alleviate residents’ concerns about parking.

“The car park in Old Leigh would seem like a logical choice because that area of Leigh is extremely popular, and it would undoubtedly provide much-needed revenue for the council.

“However, even if it were built immediately, residents would still have to contend with new developments emerging without adequate parking provisions.”

A statement in response from the Council read: “As the Local Planning Authority, the council is obligated to evaluate development proposals in Leigh, as well as the rest of the city, on a case-by-case basis, assessing them based on their unique planning merits.

“Addressing parking pressures arising from new developments does not have a one-size-fits-all solution, and schemes will propose a variety of mechanisms to address their parking requirements, tailored to their specific circumstances.”
