RAYLEIGH and Wickford MP, Mark Francois, recently paid a visit to the Parkinson’s Cafe in Hullbridge, which now meets regularly in the Free Church, along Lower Road.
The cafe was founded several years ago by a local Parkinson’s sufferer, Mr Colin Rickards, in order to provide a forum for sufferers of the disease – and those caring for them – to meet and exchange information and experiences, regarding treatment and related issues.
Mr Francois visited the cafe at the invitation of Mr Rickards and was briefed on some of the challenges that he and his fellow group members face, in living with this very challenging disease.
Commenting on his visit, Mr Francois said: “It was a pleasure to visit the Parkinson’s Cafe in Hullbridge and spend some time with the people who regularly attend.
“Everybody was clear about the benefits of working together, for mutual support and exchanging their experiences. Medical research into Parkinson’s is ongoing and, hopefully, perhaps one day the scientists will come up with a cure.
“In the meantime, however, groups like this play a very valuable role in helping sufferers from Parkinson’s and now having met them, I promised to remain in touch with the group in the future.”
