Roger Hirst, Essex’s Police, Fire and Crime Commissioner has U turned on a decision to axe the officers, after Labour announced an extra £2.3 million worth of funding for Essex Police.

The increase for the force this year (2025-2026) now totals £27.1 million.

David Burton-Sampson said: “I am thrilled to see the threat of losing our PCSOs removed. This is a change for the better.

“We could not possibly lose that number of officers without there being a significant effect on frontline policing.

“This government has recognised that and acted. Labour is putting neighbourhood police officers at the heart of its plans to restore confidence in policing.”

The total funding for Essex Police amounts to £433 million for 2025-2026, an increase of 6.7%.
