Planning Appeal - AN appeal has been lodged against Southend Council’s decision to refuse permission of the demolishment of buildings in Leigh to build new dwellinghouses.

AN appeal has been lodged against Southend Council’s decision to refuse permission of the demolishment of buildings in Leigh to build new dwellinghouses.

Applicants applied in November 2023 to Demolish existing buildings in land between 32 – 36 Sandleigh Road and erect a new home, with parking to the front and an amenity space to the rear.

Planning officers refused the plans because the design was considered to “top heavy” and out of keeping with the site.

The report said: “The proposed dwelling, by reason of its roof form, design, including its detailed design and top-heavy nature would appear incongruous and significantly out of

keeping in the street scene and would be significantly harmful to the character and

appearance of the site, the street scene and the area more widely.

“This harm is not outweighed by the benefits of the proposal, including the additional housing proposed.”

The decision on this proposal will now be considered by the planning inspectorate when

determining the appeal.
