THE brother of a murdered Rochford man has launched a campaign to see the minimum prison sentence for killers increased.
Alexander Clark, 39, has paid tribute to his younger brother Dominic Clark-Ellingford who was murdered in November 2022 by Perry Coulson, 39, during an incident in a flat in Lesney Gardens.Coulson received a life sentence for the murder and will serve at least 16 years in prison.
Now, Mr Clark is petitioning for an increased minimum sentence, so he and his family can get a “greater sense of justice,” following the father of two’s tragic death.
He reportedly said: “Since Dominic was murdered, my whole family has been absolutely devastated.
“We have had to come to terms with the sudden and shocking loss of a much-loved brother, son, uncle, and father.
“Losing my brother in such a way was heart breaking. He was fit and healthy and just starting to get his life back on track after a few rocky years battling addiction and depression.
“Dominic was always someone I could call any time, day, or night. Likewise, he could, and would call me any time. We were very close, especially in the last year before he was killed.
“His laugh was instantly recognisable and infectious. He was such a loving father; he absolutely adored his kids more than anything in the world.
“A huge hole has been left in our lives with him gone.”
Mr Clark’s petition aims to increase the minimum sentence for a killer convicted of murder from 15 years to 20 years.
He added: “This petition is so important; the victim’s family need to know that their loved one’s killer isn’t going to be able to enjoy their freedom for an extremely long time. Much longer than the current minimum sentence is. A longer sentence will give families a slightly better sense of justice.”
