Protections For Children

STRONGER protections for children online are being welcomed by MP David Burton-Sampson because, he says, children and young people should be able to use technology without being exposed to risks.
New legislation will make it impossible for anyone under 18 to take, view or send naked images on their devices and force technology companies to build stronger safeguards to help stop grooming and exploitation.
Mr Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West & Leigh, said:” For too long, the pace of technological change has moved faster than the protections available to children. We cannot simply accept that as inevitable.
“I welcome our Labour Government’s decision to prepare legislation that will put stronger protections directly into the technology children use every day.
“Parents and carers should not have to become experts in complicated settings just to keep their children safe. The responsibility must also sit with the companies designing and providing these services.
“This is about making sure children in Southend West and Leigh can benefit from technology while being properly protected. We are determined to make the online world safer for children.”
The measures would make the UK a global leader on online safety and mean the UK has the strongest online child safety laws in the world.
