Rape Investigation

DETECTIVES investigating an incident in Rayleigh have arrested a man.
A police statement said: “We were called shortly after 2am on Sunday 12 July following a report of a rape at Fairview Park, Rayleigh.
“As part of our enquiries, a 29-year-old man has been arrested on suspicion of rape. He has since been released on bail until October while our investigation continues.”
Detective Chief Inspector James Gray said: “We understand news of an incident like this will be concerning for the Rayleigh community and we recognise the impact incidents of this nature can have on the wider community.
“We want to reassure residents that we have acted quickly and robustly to progress our investigation and make an arrest.
“Our enquiries remain ongoing and we would ask anyone who has information, to come forward and speak to us.
“The woman involved is being supported by specially trained officers and remains at the forefront of our investigation.”
The police statement concluded: “Anyone with information is asked to contact us on 101, quoting incident 202 of 12 July. Alternatively, information can be submitted online through our website.”
