RAYLEIGH Horticultural Society’s Spring Show showcased a joyous array of local blooms and crafts.
Held at the Mill Arts & Events Centre, the show evidenced a variety of entries from members, with the wide array of produce admired by large number of visitors.
Nicola Calder won the Town Show Cup for the best entry in all horticultural classes with a vase of five perfect mixed daffodil blooms, also taking home the Daffodil Society Bronze medal.
Lesley Gregory won best entry in the tulip classes and Jane Boore’s amaryllis was best in the houseplant section.
The winner in the New Competitor class was Jane Elliott, and Carole Noble won best Domestic entry with her jar of Piccalilli and also the best entry in the Handicraft classes with a handmade handbag.
Leo Wilkinson won a prize for his Abstract Seed Picture in the Children’s class.
Pat Hill of the society said: “The colourful displays were admired by a record number of visitors, and several comments were made about the high standard of entries.”
Visitors to the show were able to buy items from the Society’s Trading Store and also cakes and preserves from Country Markets.
There was also a large selection of garden plants for sale.
Membership of Rayleigh Horticultural Society cost just £8 per household per year.
