A spokesman for the British Transport Police said: “Officers were called to Rayleigh railway station at 1.45am on September 1, to reports of a fight.

“Officers attended and a woman was arrested on suspicion of being drunk and disorderly. She was then further arrested on suspicion of assault of an emergency worker and a racially aggravated public order.

Rochford Council councillor, Danielle Belton, commented: “It is always distressing to hear of incidents like this one, especially following another incident in the town on Friday.

“On the whole Rayleigh is a safe place to enjoy a night out, but these kind of isolated problems cast a shadow over the area.

“My thanks go to our emergency services for responding quickly to the situation and securing an arrest.”
