A LOCAL writing group has boosted funds for the Essex and Herts Air Ambulance with a new publication.
The Rayleigh Library Writers have raised £1,200 for the charity, from their latest anthology of short stories and poems.
Essex Tales is the sixth volume they’ve released of their work and it now takes the writers total fundraising for the charity to an impressive £9,700.
“Every year, we release an anthology and give all profits to Essex and Herts Air Ambulance as they are entirely reliant on donations and it is such a crucial service in saving lives,” said Rayleigh Library Writers’ treasurer Richard Banks.
“I’m so proud of all our writers, supporters and local businesses who help make this book possible as together we can make a difference to our community and help this vital charity. After all, no one knows when they might need their help.”
Essex and Herts Air Ambulance volunteer Pam Corrie joined the group at their monthly meeting at Rayleigh Library and was thrilled to receive the cheque.
Ms Corrie said: “Every time we go on a mission to help someone, it costs £2,200, and to keep our two helicopters operational takes some £9million a year, so we’re full of appreciation for the Rayleigh Library Writers for such a generous donation.
“I’m an Essex girl myself and to have their constant support over so many years is incredible.
“Remember, next time you see a red and yellow helicopter in the sky, it’s on its way to help someone and donations like this make that happen.”
Essex Tales is on sale at local events such as craft fairs and church fetes, and costs £5.
