A YOUNG girl from Hockley has been awarded for her bravery in phoning 999 when her mother collapsed.
Ava Rose, 7, was presented with a certificate by ambulance workers to commemorate her quick thinking and calm response.
Her mother, 30-year-old Tiffany Rose, had collapsed suddenly at home when she had a bad reaction to new medication on May 18.
Ava managed to call the operator, and even manged to tell them what her mum’s heart rate was by looking at her mum’s Fitbit.
When her mother went to hospital because she was suffering from low blood pressure, Ava packed a bag for herself with everything she needed and unlocked her mum’s phone for the crew, so they could call her next of kin and the school, as well as finding Ms Rose’s medication.
One month on, and with Ms Rose recovering well, Ava was presented with the certificate.
Paramedic Jenny White, who attended the incident said: “Ava’s calmness and quick actions allowed us to assess and treat her mum quickly, before transferring them to the hospital.
“She demonstrated maturity beyond her age by remaining calm during a stressful situation.
“She should be very proud of how she managed the situation, and we wanted her to know how impressed we were by her.”
Ms Rose said added: “I was overwhelmed with so many emotions, but I think extremely proud and thankful were at the top.
“She did an incredible job, and I am so, so proud of her and, of course, so thankful.
“It still makes me teary.
“She doesn’t really realise quite how important it was that she behaved so calmly and bravely, so it’s nice that the ambulance crew have recognised that with a certificate.”
