Refurbished Skatepark Reopens

LEIGH Town Council has relaunched Leigh Skatepark following essential refurbishment works.

The work to rejuvenate the skatepark, just south of Leigh railway station, have included essential maintenance, the installation of new fencing, repairs to concrete ramps and graffiti removal.

A spokesperson for Leigh Town Council said: “As a Town Council, we’re delighted that the repairs to the skatepark have been completed.

“We know how much local people appreciate the facility.

“These repairs were never intended to improve the facility; we are simply trying to extend its life for the benefit of local residents.

“The location does mean that we need to inspect it regularly, and we have committed to increasing the frequency of inspections so that urgent repairs are flagged. We receive developer contributions from the City Council to improve community facilities.

“This is a prime example of how they can be used.”

The skatepark recently came to the attention of residents after it was vandalised midway through the improvement works, much to the disappointment of locals and councillors alike.

The spokesperson continued: “Our only disappointment is that people broke into the skatepark during the works, causing additional costs to the Council, as well as potentially endangering themselves.

“We understand that regular users of the skatepark are forming a user group, and we look forward to constructive discussions with them.”

Carole Mulroney, Leigh Town councillor for St Clement’s Ward, attended the re-opening of the park.

She added: “I am personally really pleased to see the skatepark work done, so people can get back to using it and enjoying the space again.”
