Road Safety Experience

POLICE cadets in Southend have been getting a real insight into how officers keep people safe on our roads.
On 23 May, the Essex Police group spent an evening on Prittlewell Chase, shadowing local Special Constables during a traffic-focused operation. After taking part in a classroom session on roads policing, they then headed out to see enforcement in action, watching first-hand how officers tackle speeding in the area.
A police statement said: “Their knowledge was put to the test at the end of the session, with cadets successfully earning a Cadet Roads Certificate – a fantastic achievement recognising their understanding of key road safety issues.
“Through observation and hands-on learning, the cadets gained valuable insight into: How speed guns detect illegal speeds: How officers safely engage with drivers: The risks linked to the #FatalFive offences: The vital role of education and interventions delivered through the Safer Essex Roads Partnership.
“By working alongside officers and seeing real-life policing in action, the cadets are building a strong understanding of why road safety matters and how everyone has a role to play in preventing serious collisions.
“Well done to all involved for helping to build safer roads for the future.
“Remember: The Fatal Five offences include speeding, drink or drug driving, not wearing a seatbelt, using a mobile phone, and careless driving are the main causes of serious and fatal collisions.
“We’d urge all our drivers to keep to the speed limit every time you get behind the wheel.”
