FIRE fighters tackled an overnight blaze near Rochford, after a haystack caught fire.
Four crews were called to Lambourne Hall Road in Canewdon at around 8.14pm on Sunday, September 29th.
Windy conditions meant the hay caught alight quickly and spread, affecting around 180 hay bales.
Station Manager Rick Williams said at the time of the incident: “Crews are currently working to protect the surrounding area.
“Approximately 180 tonnes of hay bales are alight.
“Due to the windy conditions the fire is burning through the haystack quite quickly.
“ We are looking to scale this incident down soon but crews will likely remain here overnight to make sure the haystack burns out safely.”
Essex County Fire and Rescue Service revealed this morning that one crew remained at the fire all night and continued to let the haystack burn under control.
