Australian superstar Jason Donovan is coming to Southend as he reprises his legendary role in Richard O’Brien’s rock ‘n’ roll musical, Rocky Horror Show.

Jason, who shot to fame decades ago in the soap Neighbours, has just come off a sold-out Australian Tour of the rock extravaganza, and now the show is hitting the UK, with the entourage arriving in Westcliff’s Cliffs Pavilion next January,

On why he is reviving his beloved role of Dr Frank’n’Furter, he said: “In a nutshell, I’m a fan. I love the show: I love the music: I love the character.

“I was doing my own show about five years ago and included “Sweet Transvestite” from Rocky has a key moment in my musical career. It went down a storm.”

Donovan has appeared in many productions, including Joseph in the original production of Joseph and his Amazing Technicolour Dreamcoat, as well as the Demon Barber of Fleet Street

It is, however, Dr Frank’n’Furter who occupies a special place in his heart. “One of the reasons I love Rocky is because it’s a short show,” he added.

“It says everything it needs to say and nothing more.”

Having been seen by over 35 million theatregoers, it is the story of two squeaky clean college kids – Brad and his fiancée Janet.

When by a twist of fate, their car breaks down outside a creepy mansion whilst on their way to visit their former college professor, they meet said Frank’n’Furter.

Directed by Christopher Luscombe, Rocky Horror Show is the biggest party and features timeless classics, including the famous Sweet Transvestite, as well as Dammit Janet, and of course, the pelvic thrusting showstopping Time Warp.

Age recommendation for the show, which runs from Monday 13 to Saturday 18 January 2025, is 12+

Showings across the run are at: 8pm, 5pm, and 8.30pm

Tickets are between £22 and £55, and a transaction fee of up to £3.95 may apply to your order.
