Safer Parking Bollards - NEW bollards have been installed to tackle pavement parking on a busy Eastwood Road.

NEW bollards have been installed to tackle pavement parking on a busy Eastwood Road.

Frustrated residents have repeatedly claimed that dangerous parking on the corner of Bellhouse Road and Rayleigh Road was putting pedestrian is a risk.

Lib Dem Councillor for Eastwood Paul Collins highlighted the issue of vehicles pulling away across the nearby zebra crossing.

He said: “there is permission to pull in there, but what people were doing was going for further; by parking on the green space, and then leaving across the drop curb and zebra crossing.”

Where there had previously been a few bollards on the corner of Bellhouse Road Rayleigh Road this new initiative extends that considerably.

Eastwood LibDem councillors have worked with Southend Council’s highways officers to deliver the solution and making Rayleigh Road safer.

Coun Collins said: “Offices have decided to prevent the mixing of pedestrians and parking and it’s something that we wanted to make it safer.

“Highways officers will be working on action for the opposite of Rayleigh Road here as well,” he added.
