A POPULAR Leigh sports pub has confirmed it will be closing its doors for good at the beginning of 2025.
The Sarah Moore pub has served the community for three decades, but will shut down at the end of its lease, to make way for a development.
Will Farrell, 30, who has been running the Sarah Moore since December 2022, reportedly called the closure of the Elm Road pub a “bittersweet moment” but added he was happy to be its last landlord.
The pub, which became the Sarah Moore in the 1990s, is currently for sale with a view to it being turned into a “residential property”.
The Sarah Moore posted on Facebook on October 28: “Unfortunately, we have some sad news to share today. Myself and Will have been informed that lease term on the building has come to end.
“The building has been up for sale for some time with the intentions of it being turned into a residential property. So on January 4, which will be the last evening before the pub closes down, we are throwing a “Sarah no more party” and we have the amazing Pete Lacey coming with Ska N Mash to enjoy our last evening.
“We would like to thank all our staff and the amazing customers over the years that we have been here, we appreciate everyone and have had some really good laughs.”
They added the pub will be stripped out on January 6 and will remain empty until any future work begins.
The venue is currently applying for temporary events notice to ensure it can remain open until 2am on its final night.
Mr Farrell thanked his “amazing” customers and staff for all they have done to support the pub over the years.
The statement continued: “We plan to see out the next 9 weeks with a bang and have plenty of events arranged. But please all pop down the January 4 for the last night of trade – we want the pub to end in style. Thank you everyone!”
