Saving School Pool - MORE than £14,000 has been raised in a bid to save a Leigh primary school’s swimming pool.

MORE than £14,000 has been raised in a bid to save a Leigh primary school’s swimming pool.
The pool at Leigh North Street Primary School is set to shut on July 17 due to rising costs, causing concerns among residents that a vital community asset will be lost.
With an initial petition gaining thousands of signatures, parents set up the Save the North Street Pool fundraising campaign, making thousands of pounds through the generous donations of residents, families, businesses and supporters.
Klaudia Bevan, organiser of the fundraiser and a member of the Save Leigh North Street Pool campaign, reported: “We are incredibly grateful for the fantastic support shown by our community in helping to keep the school pool open.
“We have been blown away by the generosity of everyone who has contributed, whether through large donations or small ones, particularly at a time when many households are facing financial challenges of their own.
“Whilst the school has confirmed that fundraising on its own will not be an option to keep the pool open, we are working hard to raise awareness in the local council and community to explore all avenues.
“Every contribution is making a real difference and demonstrates just how much this valued community asset means to people.”
The pool was earmarked for closure due to rising costs for heating, maintenance, staffing, and compliance.
In a letter to parents, Headteacher Ant Hautler said the decision to close the pool was “incredibly difficult,” but that pupils would be able to continue swimming lessons through alternative arrangements.
Ms Bevan said the campaign will continue to work with the school and the local council to explore all available options, with a target on the GoFundMe campaign set at £20,000.
At the time of writing, the GoFundMe page has raised £14,503.
