School’s Green Week

A WESTCLIFF grammar school have held an annual environmentally-themed series of events.

The fundraising ‘Green Week’ at Westcliff High School for Girls (WHSG) saw a number of scheduled events, including a debate, a second-hand sale and activities in both Textiles and Food, all rounded off with a non-uniform day, where pupils were invited to wear something recycled and green, and contribute £1 to the school’s fundraising campaign.

A spokesperson for the school said: “WHSG have been holding our annual environmentally themed Green Week, chosen as many of our partnership schools involved in the UK Schools Sustainability Network are also holding events at this time.

“The core theme this year is managing global biodiversity, with funds being raised for two charities, one global –The WWF; and one more local – The Essex Wildlife Trust.

“Money will also be used to regenerate the school pond, so we can create a new wildlife habitat in the school grounds that can help improve biodiversity and be used as a teaching resource.”
