A LOCAL grammar school are raising funds for a Leigh children’s charity by selling honey from the school’s hives.

Southend High School for Boys’ bee club are selling the jars for £10 each to raise vital funds for Gold Geese, a cancer charity that provides practical and emotional support to local families of children and young people fighting cancer.

Elaine Tyler, food technology teacher at Southend High School for Boys, said: “I chose Gold Geese with the school due to the support we had when cancer affected our family.

“The school were aware of the support and wanted to help.

“We felt we wanted to give back in some small way to help Gold Geese continue their work supporting families affected by childhood cancer.”

Katie Southgate, founder and CEO of Gold Geese, says: “We’re really thankful to Southend High School for Boys’ bee club and to the lovely Tyler family for choosing to fundraise for Gold Geese after their experience through childhood cancer. Gold Geese are happy that they felt supported by our charity.”

Katie added: “We’re here for every local family facing childhood cancer, and rely on community donations like this to fund our vital work.”

You can also donate to Gold Geese by texting GOLD followed by the amount you wish to donate to 70580.

Texts cost the donation amount plus one standard network rate message.
