A LEIGH resident who installed a large timber screen to add privacy to their balcony in the Old Town has been told they must remove it following a city council ruling.
Southend Council development control committee ruled that the owners of 10 High Street, next to Mike’s Boatyard, must remove the 2.3-meter-wide wooden privacy screen.
The screen, erected without planning permission, is at the rear of the home located at 19 High Street, and is visible from the street.
The council’s report said that the screen identified by officers is “detrimental to the significance of the existing property and the wider Leigh Old Town conservation area.”
Two previous applications to the council, one in January last year and one in July, to install a privacy screen, were both objected by the council.
