A WESTCLIFF homeowner, who erected a steel structure covered by an expansive tent, may be forced to dismantle it.
Local council members have received advice to reject a retrospective planning application and issue an enforcement notice for the removal of the structure located adjacent to a residence on Fairfax Drive.
The tent-like construction stands at a height of 5.3 meters, spans 8.1 meters in width, and extends 8 meters in depth.
The applicant has claimed that the structure serves as storage for various domestic items, including motor vehicles, tools, ladders, and paddleboards.
Photographs depicting the interior reveal that the structure has been used to park a van and a forklift vehicle.
This site was previously home to a workshop that was also required to be dismantled due to a lack of planning permission.
A previous application for the structure was refused but in April the council received a complaint prompting an investigation.
In a report authored by planning officers, they said that enforcement was justified: “Considering the identified harm, pursuing enforcement action in this case is deemed reasonable, necessary, and in the public interest.
“The objective of enforcement action is to ensure the complete removal of the unauthorized structure and the elimination of all associated materials resulting from its removal. There are no lesser measures deemed adequate to address the identified breach and associated issues in this instance.”
