The grammar school recently transformed their main hall into a West End type theatre as pupils took to the stage to perform this years’ sell-out 9 to 5 The Musical, under the direction of Mr Cottee.

The musical, inspired by the 80’s film featuring Dolly Parton, tells the story of three workmates pushed to boiling point by their sexist and egotistical boss, who then concoct a plan to kidnap him.

Mr Cottee, the Director said: All members of the production on stage and off stage played their parts perfectly and created an unforgettable show full of technical wizardry, bright costumes, energetic choreography (led by Ms Birch), a thumping soundtrack (conducted by Mrs Daniels) and above all else– fun.

“The audiences enjoyed themselves so much, with so many positive reviews from staff, students, governors, parents and guests.”

The school are also celebrating the rave review from NODA (National Operatic and Dramatic Association), which was full of praise noting the exceptional standard of all the lead roles, stating: “A splendid enthusiastic and energetic cast produced a fun-packed, vibrant show. Many congratulations to the Production Team and to everyone involved.”

Emma Matthews, Headteacher at WHSG added: “I watched the students perform with awe. It’s one of those delightful moments when the roles of student/teacher get reversed, and it’s the students who become the inspiration for us as staff.

“I am so proud of the staff and students who worked tirelessly to make the event happen, and to Mr Cottee for his dedication, creativity and talent for making it all possible.”
