Singles Club Launches

A NEW social initiative aimed at bringing people together in later life is set to launch in South Benfleet this week.
The Mingles Singles Group, a newly formed non-profit organisation, has been created to offer friendship, companionship and a wide range of social opportunities for single people aged over 60 in the local community.
The group will officially launch this Wednesday, 15 April 2026 at 7pm at the Benfleet Conservative Club, located near Benfleet Railway Station.
Following the launch, regular meetings will take place at 7pm on the last Wednesday of every month, with organisers encouraging people to “just come along” and get involved.
Unlike traditional clubs, the Mingles Singles Group will operate on a flexible, pay-as-you-go basis, with no membership subscription required.
A monthly calendar of events will be provided, offering a varied programme designed to suit a wide range of interests.
Planned activities include day and theatre trips, short UK breaks, monthly social meet-ups, buffet evenings and dances, as well as seasonal highlights such as a Christmas dinner and dance.
The group also hopes to organise cinema visits, river outings, barbecues and music-in-the-park gatherings.
For those who enjoy staying active, weekly walks are set to take place, starting from the Benfleet Conservative Club. Additional ideas, including future membership options, are also under consideration as the group develops.
A spokesperson said the group’s mottos are: “Live Laugh Lively Leisurely”, with the aim of creating a welcoming and inclusive environment where over-60s can build new friendships, enjoy shared experiences and stay socially connected.
