Maxwell McKnight and his friend Josh Wintersgill planned to raise £50,000 for two new high-end powerchairs, the Sunrise Medical X8, for SMA sufferers.
Darren, Business Development Manager at Lifestyle & Mobility, was one of Maxwell’s fellow travellers up Snowdon: “I just always do weird things… Anything that’s a bit out there, you know!” he said.
He added: “Nobody actually knew whether this chair would make it up, and, if it did, whether there would be any problems.”
The chair proved equal to the challenge, making for an inspirational day. Reflecting on the achievement, Maxwell said, “It was absolutely insane… I’ve never really experienced anything like that. Lifestyle did an amazing job to get me to the top.”
Mr McKnight admitted there were difficult moments: “It was scary to be honest.”
Despite treacherous conditions and an overcast day, other walkers provided a real energy boost with their overwhelmingly positive reactions.
“Apparently it was like Chinese Whispers,” he explained.
“People behind us were hearing about us, and that was sent back and back again. By the end, people at the bottom were hearing, ‘Oh, there’s a disabled guy going up the mountain in an off-road wheelchair.’”
Darren thanked John Barnsley, Sunmed’s Area Sales Manager for the South East, for his hands-on role, adding: “The day had the feel of a family coming together… Everyone was looking out for each other.”
Since then, Mr McKnight’s “Know No Bounds” adventure captured the nation’s imagination, with appearances on ITV’s Good Morning Britain and in the Independent newspaper.
Matt Stanfield, Digital Marketing Executive at Lifestyle & Mobility, affirmed: “It’s clear from my conversations with Maxwell and Darren that this was an experience which will live long in the memory.
“I would be surprised if this is the last time these two work together on an adventure with mobility products.”
