Sound Workshop Explores

A SOUND workshop invited participants to explore Old Leigh through mindful listening and recording.
Recent sessions hosted by Sound On Sea, founded by audio professional Brad Acton, took place in July and August, with participants spending time collecting sounds around Old Leigh.
Mr Acton, 44, who has worked in music production, theatre and live events, started Sound On Sea to encourage people to step away from everyday digital noise and experience their surroundings through sound.
Mr Acton explained how the workshops run: “We gather sounds and experiment with different microphones, contact mics and a hydrophone so we can even listen underwater.”
The aim behind the sessions is to explore how sound affects the way we experience places and memories.
“Sound On Sea is a chance to share that passion with others”, adds Mr Acton.
The group experimented with different microphones, placing them over the wharf wall and into the water to capture sounds from the area and underwater.
Participants were able to use their own recording devices or borrow equipment, before heading to No Place Like Home at the Marina to listen back to and work with their recordings.
Further workshops are planned for September 6, October 11, November 15 and December 13.
