DAVID Burton-Sampson, MP or Southend West and Leigh, is delighted at devolution plans for Southend.
The government has announced changes to shift power, decision making and money away from Westminster and rebuild local government.
The MP said:” I am really excited at plans for devolution and I will push to ensure Southend and wider Essex are at the front of the queue to get the investment that we deserve.
“This will end the ‘Whitehall knows best’ mindset and gives us the power to make local decisions ourselves, so we can shape our own future. This will drive up growth and raise the standard of living where we are.”
The Government says the changes to local government will make it more effective and improve accountability with fewer politicians, as well as save money that can be invested into public services.

Mr Burton-Sampson said: “We pledged devolution in our manifesto and that is just what we are delivering. We’re transferring powers from Westminster and putting decision making back into local hands where it belongs.”
