DAVID Burton-Sampson, MP for Southend West and Leigh, was delighted to meet care givers at a special monthly breakfast in Leigh.
The MP joined men who care for loved ones and relatives, for a Carer’s First get together. The charity organises and pays for a full English every four weeks, to help bring people together.
David Burton-Sampson said: “Carer’s First do a great job of arranging these breakfasts and even provides respite care for the people who need it, while the carers enjoy a well-earned break.
“This is Southend’s men’s group, where they can support one another. It is so important for men to be able to share their stories, as the role of carer is often seen as a female one.
“Carers are particularly isolated and do an incredible job for the community as well as for their families. They deserve this little bit of time out so much.
“I salute them and the charity Carer’s First who are commissioned through the council to bring relief and help to all unpaid carers.
“I also encourage you to help shape the future of care as the government is holding The Big Conversation on Care at the moment, to help us decide who care should be for, how we support our families and how we pay for it.”
Baroness Louise Casey is chair of the Independent Commission into adult social care. The responses from the Big Conversation will feed into her reports to the Prime Minister.
