SOUTHEND Libraries are encouraging children to take part in the Stephen Lawrence Day reading challenge (SL30) to encourage a new generation to think about the world they live in as a place where everyone can thrive.
The SL30 Reading Challenge was set up by The Stephen Lawrence Research Centre at De Montfort University and The Reading Agency to commemorate the life and legacy of Stephen Lawrence, who was tragically murdered 30 years ago this month (April 22).
Mark Harvey, executive director for adults and communities, said: “We are encouraging as many children as possible, up to the age of 14, to take part in this challenge, which is available in all Southend libraries now until May 1.
“This important project that reflects the ambition of Stephen’s family to recognise everyone’s opportunity to thrive in his memory, is one we welcome in Southend.
“There will be individual activities in reading, writing, and drawing celebrating the key themes of hope, love, care, and acceptance for all. Head to your local library to find out more.”
