A MAN has suffered a serious head injury following an assault near a pub in Westcliff.
Emergency services rushed to London Road at the junction of Park Street just before 10pm on September 17.
On arrival, it was established that a man had suffered a wound to his head during an assault, and that the man was taken to hospital for further treatment.
Essex police confirmed the victim’s injuries are not life-threatening despite being serious.
Photos from the scene showed a police cordon in place from the early hours of the morning while officers investigated the incident.
A spokesperson from the pub reportedly said the incident had seen four men involved in a violent altercation, which resulted in one man being punched and knocked out, hitting the ground.
Police are now appealing for information from any witnesses, and in particular if anyone saw a 5ft 10 inches white man in his late 20s or early 30s seen fleeing the scene in a grey car.
He is described as having a muscular build and strawberry blonde hair and a trimmed beard.
A spokesman for Essex Police said: “We are appealing for witnesses following reports a man had been assaulted in Southend yesterday evening.
“Officers were called to London Road at just before 10pm. A man had a wound to his head and was taken to hospital for treatment. His injury is believed to be serious, but not life-threatening.
“We are looking for a man who left the scene in grey car. He is described as white, in his late 20s or early 30s, about 5ft 10ins tall, of muscular build with strawberry blond hair and a trimmed beard.
“Anyone with information should contact us as soon as possible.
“Please cite incident 1206 of 17 September.”
A spokesman for The East of England Ambulance Service said: “We were called just before 10pm on Tuesday with reports of a man with a head injury on London Road in Southend.
“Three ambulances and an ambulance officer vehicle were sent to the scene. The man was transported to Southend University Hospital for further treatment.”
