A CRAB was rescued from a discarded cigarette packet during a Chalkwell litter pick.
The rescue occurred when Essex & Suffolk Water colleagues and volunteers from the Marine Conservation Society conducted a beach clean at Chalkwell Esplanade on Friday September, 20.
A spokesperson from Essex & Suffolk Water said: “Rescuing a crab from a cigarette packet was an unexpected bonus.
“A total of nine bags of rubbish, 85% of which was plastic and polystyrene, was picked up by a team of 13 volunteers as part of our company Just an Hour community scheme.
“Special thanks to Marine Conservation Society for providing the equipment!
“Well done to all of those who took part!”
