FANS of the golden yesteryears of British comedy have a treat in store this August.

What reviewer Giles Coren has called “the best thing I have ever seen in a theatre” is coming to the Palace in Westcliff, promising not only great gags but a poignant night out in honour of the craft of stand up.

The Last Laugh features heart-warming tributes to Eric Morecambe, Tommy Cooper and Bob Monkhouse, in a play which re-imagines the lives of these three titans of light entertainment meeting in a dressing room.

The three men are played by Bob Golding, Damian Williams and Simon Cartwright, all of whom have first class credentials in bringing their heroes to life.

Whilst Bob starred as Eric Morecambe in Olivier Award-nominated West End hit Morecambe, Damian played Tommy in the tour of Being Tommy Cooper.

Simon, as an actor and impressionist since the 1980s, has appeared in the award-winning TV hit Toast of London, as well as recently touring in Howerd’s End as comedian Frankie Howerd.

Written and directed by TV presenter scriptwriter and producer Paul Hendy, this show has already won hearts across the pond, with a feature film of the play also in the pipe line.

An evening not to be missed, playing at the Palace Theatre from Tuesday 19 – Saturday 23 August.
