INSPIRED by a real-life train accident – the Staplehurst Rail Crash – which Charles Dickens experienced in 1865, his masterful ghost story.
The Signalman tells the tale of a Victorian train operative haunted by the past, as well as the future.
Brought to life by Middle Ground Theatre Company in the atmospheric and purportedly-haunted Palace Theatre, this new and extended adaptation of their successful production of Dickens’ nerve-tingling ghostly masterpiece, is the ideal way to spend a cold misty evening.
The forlorn yet brooding Signalman, lurking by his signal box, tells a passing traveller how he is tormented by a spectre.
As the Signalman insists on this portent of terrible danger, can the traveller keep trusting the truth of his on senses?
A story of supernatural prediction, extra sensory perception and the hauntings of the industrial era, all centred on the doubts and uncertainty found within oneself.
Well known to the viewing public of terrestrial television from the atmospheric 1976 BBC adaptation starring Denholm Elliott, this stage adaptation stars well-known TV actors Chris Walker and John Burton, alongside an eerie set with video projections, ready to animate the old ghosts of the steam age.
