MEMBERS of the public were shocked and saddened by the theft of the King Charles the III Corination Flag and Flag pole from the Sir David Amess MP Classic Patrol boat at Chalkwell Shelter.
This small Classic Patrol boat was named after and in honour of Sir David Amess MP and as a lasting Celebration of Life Tribute to Sir Davids loyal 40 years of public service to his Country and Southend.
The former MP for Southend West and Leigh, Anna Firth, has made an appeal for the safe return of this tribute Flag and Flag pole in time for Southend City Day on March the 1st, when two new tribute boards are being unveiled at Chalkwell Shelter. One in memory of Sir David Amess MP and the other for Southend City Day.
A local resident said: “A theft of this kind, whilst heart breaking, has led to a heart warming resolution just in time for Southend City Day on March 1st with the intervention of Chrissy and Ashley Nichols, of Atlantic Pacific Global Logistics charity arm ‘Unity In Community’, who have pledged funds for a brand new Sir David Amess Tribute Flag and flagpole and also funds to restore the Classic Sir David Amess MP Patrol boats at Chalkwell Shelter that families bring their kids along to Chalkwell, to sit in these lovely old boats free of charge to learn all about water safety at the same time, right beside the sea at Chalkwell Beach.
“Free water safety colouring in sheets are also available at Chalkwell Shelter to help educate young people about water safety to save lives and prevent drownings at Southends beaches.
“It is vital that Sir David Amess MP is never forgotten and that his life and amazing achievements for our Country and the City of Southend are always remembered and celebrated, Sir David helped and was loved by so many people in the local community, he always had a friendly smile and a kind word for everyone, his light remains.”
