RAYLEIGH’S Traditional trinity Fair took place in mid-June, with thousands of attendees enjoying the amusements, activities and stalls which lined the length and breadth of the town’s High Street.

The popular event, first held way back in 1227, was closed back in 1899 due to “rowdiness” but was successfully revived by Rayleigh Town Council several years ago.

This year’s event included a whole variety of stalls for the townsfolk to enjoy, from vintage cars to face-painting, plus live bands performing from a central stage.

BBC Essex compered the event, introducing acts as well as presenting prizes to the competition winners.

There were also many charities present, plus a number of “superheroes” in costume, for families to mix with.

Local resident Mark Dennis of Rayleigh Computer Shop had a stall in the town for the second year where he enjoyed engaging with the local community.

“Again, another great day, very hot indeed, so it was fantastic to see so many people visiting us, we gave away goodie bags and ran a free prize draw for some fantastic prizes

“Rayleigh is a very traditional town, with Rayleigh Town Council and Haddon Events organising things, it looks like everyone enjoyed our lovely town.

“Thanks to all my team at RCS and look forward to seeing you again next year.”

The MP for Rayleigh and Wickford also joined his constituents in the festivities. He said: “I would like to commend Rayleigh Town Council and all the volunteers and businesses, who did so much to support a highly popular event.

“The Good Lord was also kind to us with the weather, which made for a bumper turnout. It is great that this ancient fair has been successfully revived and my constituents seemed to really enjoy the day.”
