A WESTCLIFF community group cleared fly-tipped rubbish and removed overgrown hedges as part of their efforts to improve the environment of the locale.
Grassroots Westcliff are working with over 200 registered volunteers to transform Westcliff, and have already created sites called “pocket parks” by Westcliff Station and on Crowstone Road.
Their attention is now turned to the Victory Path that runs along the train line, with phase one completed through a collective effort to clear the path of rubbish and create gardens to “boost biodiversity.”
The next phases of the project will involve installing bird boxes, a community orchard, a wildflower meadow, and educational signage.
A spokesperson said: “We’ve started our next project, improving biodiversity along the Victory Path [which] runs along the c2c rail line by the tennis courts in Westcliff.
“Come and join our next sessions on this project, which will run throughout the year.”
