Mark your calendars for Sunday, April 21, which is also ‘Military Vehicles Day’, when you can step inside the hangar and marvel at this former Royal Air Force bomber, a piece of aviation history brought to life.

Witness the weaponry that once adorned the Vulcan, including examples of the 1,000 lb high explosive bombs it dropped during the 1982 Falklands Conflict on Port Stanley airfield.

Joining the Vulcan XL426 are vintage military vehicles, ranging from tanks to armoured vehicles and Land Rovers.

The Rochford Fire Service will display one of its fire engines, accompanied by historic fire engines from the 1970s and ’80s.

Automotive enthusiasts will appreciate the line-up of 15 Triumph TR classic cars, adding a touch of elegance to the event.

You can also engage with living history groups such as the Shoeburyness & South Essex Royal Artillery Association and the Norfolk Great War Living History Group.

Watch as model aircraft take to the skies with demonstrations from the Southend Radio Control Model Flying Club.

Throughout the day, enjoy the tunes of the Essex Yeomanry Brass Band, performing a selection of popular music to set the ambiance, and refreshments will be on sale, including a licensed bar, alongside gifts from the Hangar Shop.

General admission is £8.00 for adults, with free entry for under-16s.

A spokesperson for the Trust said: “Limited free car parking will be available close to the Vulcan. Please follow the ‘Vulcan Open Day’ direction signs after entering the airport.

“If the Vulcan car park is full, visitors will need to park in the airport’s short stay car park (for which there is a charge) which is approximately 10 minutes’ walk from the Vulcan.

“Sorry – due to airport rules, we regret that no pets can be admitted with the exception of assistance dogs.

“We look forward to seeing you at our Visit the Vulcan Day.”

Tickets can be purchased on the gate or in advance, with no advance tickets required for under-16s. Vulcan Restoration Trust members get free entry with a valid membership card.
