AVIATION enthusiasts and families are invited to embark on a captivating journey through history at the “Visit the Vulcan Classic Jets Day” event, set to take place on Sunday, August 20, at Southend Airport.

The highlight of the day will be the opportunity to get up close to the iconic Avro Vulcan XL426, a former Royal Air Force bomber.

The aircraft will be displayed in its hangar, offering visitors a unique chance to explore its remarkable features.

Visitors can step inside the Avro Vulcan XL426 cockpit for a guided tour, available for an additional fee. This immersive experience promises to provide a glimpse into the intricate controls and systems that guided this historic aircraft during its operational days.

Alongside the Vulcan, visitors can explore a collection of weaponry once carried by the aircraft during its service with the RAF. Notably, there will be examples of the 1,000 lb high explosive bomb, like those dropped on Port Stanley airfield during the 1982 Falklands Conflict.

Adding to the excitement, the event will feature cockpits of three classic British post-war

jets: the Hawker Hunter, Blackburn Buccaneer, and the de Havilland Vampire. This diverse lineup ensures that visitors of all ages will find something to enjoy.

A spectacle not to be missed is the Royal Air Force’s participation in the Eastbourne Airshow, with aircraft including the renowned Red Arrows, Battle of Britain Memorial

Flight (featuring Lancaster, Spitfire, and Hurricane), and Typhoon who will be based at London Southend Airport.

Visitors of the “Visit the Vulcan Classic Jets Day” will have a front-row seat to witness these aircraft taking off and landing on Sunday.

Live musical entertainment by the Chelmsford Brass Band will set the tone for the day, while a variety of military vehicles, including those from the Shoeburyness Royal Artillery Association, will be on display.

Admission to this event is £8.00 for adults, with free entry for under-16s. Tickets can be purchased in advance or at the gate.

For those eager to delve deeper into the aviation experience, cockpit tours will be available for an additional £8.00 per person, with timed tickets. The gates will open at 10.00 am, with the last admission at 4.00 pm.

Limited free car parking spaces will be provided near the Vulcan. Public transportation is also convenient, with London Southend Airport station a short 15-minute walk away, easily accessible from the London Liverpool Street to Southend Victoria line.

Organisers kindly request that visitors refrain from bringing pets, with the exception of assistance dogs, due to airport regulations.

The Vulcan at London Southend Airport is owned by the Vulcan Restoration Trust. The

Trust is a registered charity and it maintains the aircraft in full working order, although it

is no longer airworthy.

All the proceeds from the event will go towards the aircraft’s upkeep.
