Residents in Edinburgh Avenue were reaping the rewards of planting wildflower seeds given away by an energy company.

Resident Kathleen Greenwood said: “It’s hard to believe this verge is the result of a small packet of wildflower seed that EWT were kindly giving away last year.

“On August 16, 2022 I scattered the contents on the bare earth, that had been left after pavement works had been completed.”

Ms Greenwood has identified 17 plants, including: Speedwell, Cornflower, Spotted Medick, Common Vetch, Red Dead-Nettle, Shepherd’s Purse, Daisy, Cut-leaved Cranesbill, Dandelion, Mayweed, Poppy, Buttercup, Corn Marigold, Hedge Mustard, Pineappleweed, Meadow Barley, and Love-in-a-mist.

Leigh Lib Dem councillor Peter Wexham added: “This is great display in Edinburgh Avenue of rewilding.

“This is happening across the country for plants, insects and birds.”
