A POPULAR initiative that offers young people the opportunity to take part in creative and artistic activities over the summer is back this August in Westcliff.

The Southend Summer School for Performing Arts, founded in 1992, has been running every year, apart from when covid stopped it taking place in 2020 and 2021.

Over the decades, the summer school has offered children and young people a week of creative and artistic activities during the summer holidays for one week, leading towards a final performance at the end of each week.

This has seen literally thousands of young people enjoy learning new skills such as dance and drama, music and singing, arts and crafts, circus skills and magic skills and many have gone on to develop their own careers in the performing arts.

This year, the week-long school takes place from Monday 14 to Friday 18 August, at Kings Road UR Church, Westcliff, and costs £55 for the week per child.

Each day offers a range of activities including music, singing, dance, drama, musical theatre, arts and crafts and circus skills, all directed by experienced teachers and tutors, and the participants can choose their own activities during the week, a grand finale on the Friday evening.

No experience is needed and all young people aged eight and over are welcome to take part in the week.
